Harbour of Hope

Before doing Every Face Has a Name, Director Magnus Gertten and Producer Lennart Ström made the feature length documentary Harbour of Hope. Harbour of Hope is a heartbreaking, but life-affirming documentary about the beyond belief life stories of Irene Krausz-Fainman, Ewa Kabacinska Jansson and Joe Rozenberg. In 1945 they were among the 30.000 survivors that were rescued from German concentration camps and brought to the peaceful harbour town of Malmö, Sweden. There life began again.

It was when travelling around the world and screening Harbour of Hope that Director Magnus Gertten came across many more stories entered on the survivors rescued to Malmö at the end of The Second World War. As many more people told him their gripping stories, it became evident for Gertten that he was not done documenting the life changing events taking place on the Malmö harbour in Spring 1945. It influenced him to make Every Face Has a Name.
